What is a Disciple? Audio by Swami VedaAudio download “What is a Disciple?” by Swami Veda Bharati is now available for purchase. © Copyright - Swami Veda Bharati / Ahymsa Publishers (193428026704) Audio download available on CD Baby; place click here. Album NotesIn this talk with students, Swami Veda speaks from personal experience as a disciple of Swami Rama. He begins by discussing the meaning of the word “discipline” in yogic traditions, where it has mostly positive connotations; as distinguished from the way it is used in Western cultures, where it often has negative, off-putting connotations. He shares stories of his experience with his master to illustrate how a guru may test a student and the subtle ways a master has of communicating with the student. Discipleship is not easy; students may be challenged in many different ways. But a true master will never challenge a student beyond his/her capacity. He talks about keys to preparing for discipleship, including the importance of commitment in the ordinary things of daily life and “fulfilling your karmic momentum”, that is, following through with the life choices you have made.
