Dr. Shirley Telles joins the Meditation Research Institute as Scientific Co-Director

Shirley Telles, MBBS, MPhil, Phd (Neurophysiology) has recently joined our Meditation Research Institute as a new honorary and nonresident scientific co-director. Swami Veda confirmed her appointment as effective 11 November 2009 and on 18 November there was a welcoming reception for Shirley at the ashram in which Swamiji was present.

More detail and photos below.

Dr. Telles is a renowned scientist, and with two books and 95 articles published in journals indexed in Medline and/or PsycLit/PsycInfo, she is one of the most widely published yoga science authors in the world nowadays. We are really fortunate to have her now as part of our lab together with Dr Arnaud Delorme (France) and Dr Rael Cahn (USA) as scientific co-directors. Currently, she is a Principal Investigator for the Indian Council of Medical Research at the Center for Advanced Research in Yoga and Neurophysiology at the Swami Vivekananda Yoga Research Foundation, Bangalore, and Chief Research Consultant at Patanjali Yogpeeth, Haridwar.

As our national honorary co-director, she will come to visit us from Haridwar as frequently as she can and has already agreed to be the Principal Investigator for a study on biofeedback and hypertension reduction. She is also interested in doing collaborative work with us on meditation and brain blood flow changes in practitioners from different traditions.

Dr. Telles is also an earnest yoga and meditation practitioner and one of the reasons that attracts her to our lab is the atmosphere of peace and sadhana that she breathes every time she visits Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama. She might be visiting the ashram for her own sadhana perhaps as often as for working at the lab.
