My first trip to Swami Rama’s Rishikesh Ashram took place early last year, a check out day trip. I had accompanied my Yoga teacher, to visit his Guru. One visit and I could not get the Ashram out of my mind for days. Within a few months of practicing meditation, I decided there was something in it that went “beyond.” There was a qualitative change; it was slowly opening my mind to a whole new world of spirituality. I made a “sankalpa” (resolve) to go in for Mantra initiation.
Our SRSG Ashram was recently blessed with the presence of Dr. Satish Kumar. He is a renowned educator, writer, thinker, scholar, ecological and peace activist, and above all a wanderer. One message he left us with is it is too late to be a pessimist about the environment. We must remain optimistic and do whatever we can as individuals; change will begin with each of us.

Shree Maa (alt: Shri Ma) is a Hindu saint born near Kamakhya, Assam, India who was called into oceanic silence at a very young age. On Monday morning, it was a very great pleasure and surprise when she appeared with devotees and Swami Satyananda Saraswati, an American swami with whom she established Devi Mandir, an ashram in the Bay Area of California.
