Yoga Camp in Moradabadby Rabindra SahuA 3 day Yoga Camp (from July 6th to 8th) for adults and a 2 day yoga workshop for school children in Moradabad were organized by Sri Dinesh Mehrotra as a part of the outreach program. Program highlights (Adults) This program focused on the basics- proper sitting, proper breathing and relaxation, to introducing them to meditation. The theory and practical aspects of sitting, importance of using a cushion for meditation, Makarasana, Nadi Shodhanam, Shavasana and Dhyana were the theme of the camp. This was well received by the participants. On the 3rd day, the participants inquired about various diseases and sought cures. So we decided to elaborate on Pañtanjali’s Ashtanga Yoga principle, distortion to facilitate commercialization of Yoga, the purpose of Yoga sadhana and the importance of emotional purification. I talked about Swami Ji’s physical health condition and yet his ability to sit and work for long hours. Program highlights (School children) The 2 day yoga workshop at a nearby all girl school was arranged on the spot and around 50 students between age group 14-16 attended the program. I shared an understanding on the respiratory system, nervous system and digestive system; which are the part of their course curriculum. I wanted to teach them with regards to what they have already learnt and hence focused on the same. Program Highlights
The program was concluded with a guided meditation. I was deeply moved to see them meditate with such profound silence and stillness. It was a wonderful experience teaching at the school. I have always loved teaching children, and I learnt more than I taught. This experience with children has highlighted the potential Yoga holds if introduced at the correct age. It could lead to ardent followers of the tradition for times to come if executed and followed up.
