The Children of KHEL Performat Swami Rama Sadhaka GramaParticipants at the Yoga Nidra Conference and residents of Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama were treated by a visit from and a performance by the children of KHEL on 4th March 2011. Swamiji started the program by speaking about KHEL, about how it was started by Mrs. Lalita Arya, and about how it is doing now. Mrs. Arya began by giving free milk to hungry children. Then as Saumya Arya Haas writes, “My mother realized that feeding kids helped, but it didn't fix the problem. Charity can only postpone a bleak future. Hungry children need more than charity, they need change. They need faith that one-day they will provide their own meals. They need education.” We invite you to read (Hope is the) Mother of Kindness: How we began by Saumya Arya Haas at http://www.khelcharities.org/kindness/index.html The children in the program attend Lakshmi Devi Academy in Dehradun. KHEL provides free and subsidized education to impoverished students as well as supporting other charitable programs. After Swamiji, s lecture, one student presented Swamiji with a Mala and Manju Maurya offered flowers on behalf of KHEL. Mr. Rajah Indran ji introduced Mrs. Asha Stephan who read a paper written by Stomya Arya Persaud and who acted as the MC for the program. During the program, Swamji met with the children and distributed sweets to them. The children performed a welcome song and presented Garhwali, Udiya, Nepali and Rajasthan songs and dances. All the people in Ashram liked this program. It was a very nice and successful program. Our small children played very well the drum and tabla with Mukesh sir. The dancing and singing were also very good. Beni Bhatt, General Manager of KHEL, India, shared the news of this event.
